BAFFIN BAY FISHING - Baffin Bay is the southern most bay in the Texas Coastal Bend. It is an inlet of the larger Laguna Madre located near the Gulf of Mexico and is part of the boundary between Kenedy and Kleberg counties. It’s lack of any major freshwater drains and any open passes leading to the Gulf of Mexico creates a higher salinity level than other bays. While this results in a lack of shellfish it boasts some of the finest fishing to be had in South Texas being a mecca for trophy speckled trout, black drum and redfish.
Baffin is the only bay in Texas that has rock formations unique to its waters. These “rocks” are actually the remains of reefs built long ago by the Serpulid Rock Worm. The remote setting of Baffin Bay from major populated areas along with the rock formations and high salinity contribute to it being one of the top trophy speckled trout destinations in the world. Trout love these formations spread throughout the bay randomly, but Baffin Bay is also known for redfish and black drum.
Local guides can take you to that magic spot or bring your own boat.

Birding – Located on the Central Texas – Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail, Kingsville Loop, South Texas is truly a paradise for birdwatchers. Travelling South on US 77 and turning East on FM 772 will provide an opportunity for common ground dove, Groove- billed Ani, the two thrashers, Pyrrhuloxia and Painted Bunting (in summer) continue on to Drum Point which overlooks Cayo del Grullo portion of Baffin Bay. Heron, egrets, pelicans, waterfowl and shore birds find a home here along with Wilson’s Plover and Least Tern (in summer). Migration months bring millions of swallows and martins. From here travel on to Kaufer-Hubert Memorial Park where you may find Semipalmated, Snowy and Piping (in winter) as well as other species such as Stilt, Pectoral and white-rumped sandpipers (in Spring) Green Jay and Olive Sparrow often hide in the brushy areas around the park.
